Florida Senator Marco Rubio will be voting to defund Planned Parenthood. According to Rubio spokesman Alex Burgos, Rubio will “vote to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood,” even though it appears that the vote will be a losing one, as 41 Democrat Senators have already signed a letter stating their opposition to ending funding to Planned Parenthood, enough to ensure that the measure cannot be passed in the Senate.
The House of Representatives has previously voted by a 240-185 margin to pass an amendment authored by Representative Mike Pence to defund Planned Parenthood. While the measure in the Senate will likely fail, it will force so-called “moderate” Democrats such as Florida Senator Bill Nelson to go on the record, who could very well have another very unpopular vote he will have to defend come 2012.
