The tragic shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, an innocent 9 year old girl by the name of Christina Taylor Green, and several others is not the result of the so-called “heated rhetoric” within our political climate (aka the legitimate criticism and the more-often-than-not cantankerous debate that is the norm in free societies). This senseless act is much more about mental illness and its pervasiveness throughout society, a disturbed loner with a chaotic world view, the inability of mental health professionals to identify such an individual before he acted out on his disturbed thoughts, and finally the manifestation of evil (that’s spelled E-V-I-L for our liberal friends who deny its existence) in a free and open society.
The shooter was a lunatic in the true sense of the term, clearly not a rational actor with a coherent political ideology- you don’t need a Ph.D. to make that distinction after a quick review of his bizarre YouTube videos. The fact that he shot many people as he did shows he was a deeply disturbed individual, and if he had a family and/or substantial interaction with a broader social circle, his instability would likely have been apparent to those he encountered. When more information finally comes to light about this depraved individual, it’s probable that Jared Loughner will have been found to have been an isolated loner who should have been committed to a psychiatric ward a long time ago, much like the Virginia Tech shooter should have.
There are too many politcos and media personalities who are already trying to spin this tragedy to put those who oppose their agenda and their bias on the defensive, but their attempts to determine this shooter’s motives miss on every count. We didn’t hear about the “overheated political climate” in Virginia in 2007 after student Seung Hui Cho went on his mass shooting spree that killed 32 on the campus of Virginia Tech. But perhaps because this incident happened in Arizona- the state that recently passed its own tough immigration law, the Left automatically views the tragedy through its distorted prism to tie this senselessly violent act to their political opposition’s “rhetoric” and the immigration law- the purpose of which is to stop the out of control cross border violence in the first place. Remember how “caution” was urged when trying to ascertain the motives of Fort Hood Shooter Major Nadal Malik Hassan, but that’s apparently been cast the wind in this instance.

Father of Deceased Nine-Year Old Does Not Want More Gun Restrictions
Predictably, the media is already firing blanks by either directly blaming Sarah Palin and the “Tea Party”, or by questioning the character of the people of Arizona, as if they are somehow morally deficient as compared to the rest of the country.Regrettably, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz appeared on Meet the Press this past weekend and used the tragedy to score completely unrelated political points. Memo to Debbie- this shooting has nothing to do with those much villified crosshairs on Palin’s Facebook page any more than it has to do with Daily Kos’ use of ‘bullseyes’ on his site. And it’s highly unlikely that the killer was responsibly engaged within the controversial health care and immigration debates that have divided the political left and right.
More likely than not, this senseless act has everything to do with a disturbed mind of a sick individual whose increasing isolation and lack of a caring family and/or friends only exacerbated his isolation, depression, hatred, and obsession to commit an atrocity that would not only take many lives, but also garner him the attention he craved- or perhaps to simply go to his maker in a hail of bullets. But if we are going to criticize so called “reckless” rhetoric, Congresswoman Wasserman-Schultz should start at the top with our chief law enforcement officer, none other than President Barrack Obama- it was he who told a raucous group of admirers in 2008 that “If they bring a knife to a fight, we bring a gun”, and he has a history of inflammatory remarks that exacerbate tensions rather than elevate the discourse and debate- a tactic he learned on the streets of Chicago.
Wasserman-Schultz’s selective moral outrage is politically opportunistic- she’s had prior opportunities to speak out against so called “heated rhetoric”, but was MIA. Congresswoman, this is not about “heated rhetoric” as you define it, and your Party’s kneejerk call for more gun regulations will not prevent future incidents from individuals who will always have both the means and the opportunity. God Bless the victims of this senseless act of violence, most especially Christina Taylor Green.
