Self-proclaimed ‘Blue-Dog’ Democrat Alan Boyd is facing a strong challenge from businessman Steve Southerland from Panama City, Florida. Southerland won the GOP primary race on August 24, while Congressman Boyd only narrowly won his Democrat primary by the slimmest of margins. This is a key race because of the fact that the seat is looked upon as very strong pickup possibility for Republicans this November. Many politicos and conservative organizations like FreedomWorks are paying close attention to Southerland and could very well put their time and resources into this and other competitive Congressional races throughout Florida.
I was finally able to meet up with Southerland at the Florida GOP’s Quarterly meeting in Orlando this past weekend. Here is what he said about Congressman Boyd and his ties to Speaker Nancy Pelosi:
