Governor Charlie Crist attended the opening of this Fort Lauderdale Senatorial Campaign office today where he was greeted by 60+ supporters from both the Democrat and Republican parties. In attendance was Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti, Parkland Mayor Michael Udine, Representive Ari Porth (D) a couple of Broward Republican Executive Commitee(BREC) members, as well as several local business owners like the owner of Wings Plus in Coral Springs, Florida. The Governor’s speech was short and to the point. The Governor asked for everyone to get involved in his campaign by taking bumperstickers and yard signs- Crist has long said that each bumpersticker represents 7 votes. Crist is currently trailing Republican Marco Rubio by 10 points in the most recent Rasmussen public opinion poll.
Crist made his case for being the Governor ‘of the people’ and not having to answer to any party by remarking that the two other candidates in the race are “strapped by their party”. He also used the analogy of stepping over the party line by saying, “ I’ve stepped over it..it’s like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute”.
