Florida’s Republican gubernatorial primary just got more interesting in two regards. First, the latest Mason-Dixon Poll now shows Attorney General Bill McCollum with a 4 point lead over challenger Rick Scott, a 10 point swing from the prior Mason Dixon Poll that had Rick Scott up 6 points, but trailing Democrat Alex Sink by 2 in a general election match-up. This poll differs with the latest Rasmussen Poll, which shows Scott up 5, and also with a lead over Sink. Taken together, these polls suggest a very tight race with a substantial number of undecideds, making this a very fluid race that will go down to the wire. The winner will likely be who wins the messaging war during the last 12 days of the campaign- the question is, will negative ads be the driver that helps the undecideds to reach their conclusion, or will a positive theme emerge from either of these candidates as to why they are the stronger candidate in November?
But in an unexpected twist in this contentious primary, McCollum is now hedging on supporting Rick Scott were he the GOP’s nominee:“We’ve got an issue with character and trust with this man and I’m holding back judgment.”
Asked if the likely Democratic nominee Alex Sink had any “character and trust” issues, McCollum said, “Not to my knowledge.”
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
This is a rather unhelpful comment by McCollum who seems to be losing sight of the more important goal that takes precedence to his candidacy- retaining the Governor’s seat. Rick Scott has said that he would support McCollum if the Attorney General would win the gubernatorial race, so why wouldn’t McCollum do the same, even in the heat of a toughly contested primary?
GOP primary voters deserve a definitive answer from McCollum- will you support Rick Scott were he to win the GOP primary, or would you be supporting your fellow cabinet member Alex Sink?
