A federal judge has ordered a one-day extension in Florida’s voter registration deadline.
U.S. District Judge Mark Walker said the state should continue accepting voter registration papers through 5 pm on Wednesday. He also set up a Wednesday morning hearing to consider a request by the Florida Democratic Party to keep registration open until Oct. 18 — a week after the initial deadline was set to pass.Walker wrote in the 16-page ruling:
It has been suggested that the issue of extending the voter registration deadline is about politics. Poppycock. This case is about the right of aspiring eligible voters to register and to have their votes counted. Nothing could be more fundamental to our democracy.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Even though the judge made that statement it does seem the move is political. We reported prior, Governor Rick Scott refused to add extra days to the voter registration deadline stating everyone had ample time to register. Yet on the other side Hillary Clinton’s campaign was urging him to extend the date. Then the Florida Democratic Party sued the state when Clinton did not get her way.
In addition, Clinton’s campaign announced on Monday Hillary Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore will focus on voter registration in the state before the new deadline. They will be touring the state encouraging people to register to vote.
