The crowded field of Republican candidates in Florida’s 18th congressional district squared-off at forum or debate of the 2016 election cycle in Jupiter, Florida.
The Jupiter chapter of the Palm Beach County Tea Party held the event at the Abacoa golf club, where one of the questions posed to the candidates, was where the stood on tax reform, and which tax plan they supported.Attorney Rick Kozell, businessman Paul Spain, Dr. Marc Freeman, and former state Representative Carl Domino, all support a flat tax. Domino supports a “modified” flat tax.
Combat veteran Brian Mast supports the Fair Tax, as does Martin County School Board member Rebecca Negron, who seemed to struggle with her response to the question.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Before stating that she “would go with the fair tax,” Negron waffled about which tax plan she supported.
To me, our tax system needs to be simpler, fairer, and we can talk about flat, said Negron. Negron then added, “I like. I’ve heard a lot about the fair tax. I think we should discuss it in congress.”
Forum moderator and WPTV News anchor Michael Williams, then asked Negron if the plan should be “revenue neutral.”Williams: Should it be revenue neutral?
Negron: No
Williams: Why not?
Negron: That I couldn’t tell you
Negron qualified her answer by saying that she now supported the Fair Tax because it would be “fairer for all of Americans.”This was probably the most cringe-worthy moment of the evening, as the many of the attendees to the event could be seen shaking their heads in disbelief over Negron’s response, and how visibly uncomfortable she was in answering the question.
One couple in attendance, who asked that their  name be kept out of this story, said that Negron’s lack of knowledge about revenue neutrality proved that she was not “cut out” for the U.S. Congress.
Several other attendees pointed out that Negron was visibly reading from her notes throughout the forum,  adding that they were now convinced that  Negron was not well-versed on the issues, and that her performance, aside from her tax reform answer, was abysmal.
