According to the Constitution, any treaty or lift of sanctions has to first go through Congress for approval. On Wednesday Nancy Pelosi (CA-D) said she thinks the agreement with Iran should move forward without any intervention from Congress at all.
She said:Diplomacy has taken us to a framework agreement founded on vigilance and enforcement, and these negotiations must be allowed to proceed unencumbered.
The only reason Pelosi is lobbying against having the Iran agreement go through Congress is because she knows they are going to either severely alter the agreement or kill it all together.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Iran has said there will not be a deal unless all of the sanctions are removed the first day at the same time.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said:
We will not sign any deal unless on the very first day of its implementation all economic sanctions against Iran are lifted all at once.
Congress has no intention of doing that and quite frankly, they shouldn’t.
Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise (R) has said:
The sanctions that were put in place – again, very bipartisan sanctions passed by Congress years ago that were effective – the only way to get rid of them completely would be for Congress to vote to ease those sanctions. . . We haven’t had that vote. I don’t see that passing out of the House. I don’t even think it would pass out of the Senate right now.
Depending on what side you ask you will get a different story about what the actual game plan of the deal is. The United States says the deal would reduce Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium by 98% and scale back the number of installed centrifuges.
Iran will tell you the United States is lying and their nuclear reserves and centrifuges are going to be uninterrupted. Some will even tell you the United States is going to give Iran a nuclear power plant.
The truth generally lies somewhere in between but we will not know unless Congress gets to review the proposed agreement and it is made available to the public.
