The Hispanic Allen West?

By Javier Manjarres

The conservative movement is fortunate to count amongst its ranks several principled individuals who can effectively and unapologetically articulate conservatism and take the fight to liberal progressives- Congressman Allen West comes immediately to mind. And for conservatives who are looking for reinforcements who will get Congressman West’s back in Congress, it looks like we’ve found yet another one prepared to do so.

Retired Air Force Colonel Evelio ‘EJ’ Otero is from Miami, and he’s not kidding around- he’s a down the line conservative Republican of Cuban descent. I sat down with Otero for an interview where I was able to get a better grasp of his views and his newly announced candidacy for U.S. Congress.

Otero reminds me a lot of West in that he is unafraid to speak his mind, and he carries himself with a high degree of military-bred integrity and demeanor. Otero strikes me as someone who can put a conservative smackdown on liberals, in both English and en ‘Espanol.’ Otero is running against Democratic congresswoman Kathy Castor in the Tampa area, who is considered by many in Republican circles to be Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’ ‘mini-me.’

The Combat Veterans for Congress, a group who was the first to endorse Congressman Allen West, has also recently come out in support of Otero.

The Repubs are so fortunate to have such diverse ethnic conservative candidates.

There is a cuban descent conservative running for seantor in Texas, Ted Cruz, who sounds much like this candidate, understands we need fighters.
    I like them all

I will learn more about Col. Otero. He sounds great to me.

We need a national map of House districts illustrating people like this who are considering running for Congress.

As a 70 year old Hispanic father of 4, who has been involved politically in many facets, I do not buy the “vote for your own and everything will be allright” nonsense. I’ve learned from experience that your own kind will do you in as evidenced by the phony politicians of all races, ethnicity and religion.

I mention the foregoing to make it perfectly clear that my being Hispanic, in no way ,enters into the picture for my approval of what Otero believes to be the course for our country.

I wish him well in his quest to represent the people of his district and sincerely hope he does not get caught up in the Washington D.C games.

Amen sir…you’ve said what I think many conservatives have felt all along–there is too much emphasis in the political sphere as to group membership, to the exclusion of what is really important. Things like character and beliefs weigh much more than race, ethnicity, sex, etc. If this country is to find its way, we must get away from this idea that people of certain groups must always think or support a particular party. Group identity is important, but it should never trump the fact that we are all Americans first and should strive to elect people who are going to remember that–regardless of the color of their skin. God bless.

I, too, wish him well in the election. I admire his clarity of mind and applaud his fearlessness in speaking the truth!

“WOW” BullsEye, this guy hit the nail on the head. This is what we need in congress.

LOVE the comparison of good candidates to Allen West! Would love to see West in the VP role leading to running for President down the line.
Then we have Rubio who has been an articulate stand up conservative who should also move on up the ladder.
Just now hearing about Otero and what I am hearing sounds solid. I will follow his moves and see how he holds up.
Too bad West and Otero are both out of my voting range. When they move into statewide or national range I would volunteer my services.
PS for demographics sake, i am a senior, white woman.

E J Otero and Allen West are fabulous, articulate conservatives. It’s a pleasure to hear them speak common sense patriotism for America.
I am out of their districts for this coming election. But when they become national, they have my vote!
For the record, I am female, senior and Jewish.

  • A Principled Republican

Allen West “principled?” Are you kidding me? After saying he would never vote for the payroll tax extension, guess what he did? Guy’s a sell out just like all the other politicians in DC.

    • Beezle

I completely agree. West voted to increase the debt ceiling adding about 2 trillion to the debt. He is no different than what’s already up there. If we would start replacing every politician who lies to us the very next time they run then we might just get some principled people in office, but until we do it’ll continue to be same old story.

Allen please run for president and EJ Otero for vice.great

  • Patriot

I wish that West represents the Patriotic and conservative views, but I cannot. He and every elected official that voted for the NDAA btrayed the people by stealing our protected freedoms under the Constitution. in one fell swoop they cancelled out the 4th, 5th, 6th Ammendments to the Constitution when they gave the Military and the President, the authority to imprison indefinately and without charges any American that is deemed to be a terrorist. Furthermore they have codified the ability of the President to kill American Citizens designated by a secret Panel to be a terrorist. I will not support or vote for any of the Florida Politicians that voted Aye on this Law, and that includes West, and Rubio.

Evelio is an American that has put his life on the line for this country. After retiring as an intelligence officer from the USAF, with expertise in the Middle East and elsewhere, he now wants to use the knowledge about our enemies to push back against the political incorrect, ignorant, ill-informed, etc. individuals with congress, return our country to it’s historic greatness: in using peace through strength, whereas the current administration, is weakening our country so overtly that our enemies are laughing at us. We have to get rid of the old guard, in both parties, who seem nto to comprehenve who our enemies are, including strange alliances between Muslim Fundamentalists, Communists and Fasciasts. Evelio will most certainly make that positive difference.
