In a somewhat unexpected move, Jeb Bush Jr. has endorsed Jon Huntsman for President:
“I am confident that Jon’s vision will appeal to young voters, who are concerned about the trillions of dollars in debt being piled on their backs, and who desperately seek jobs and economic opportunity,” Bush said in a statement released by the Huntsman campaign. “Perhaps most importantly, Jon is the candidate best-equipped to defeat President Obama next November.”
Jeb Jr.’s endorsements always make folks do a double take- whenever Jeb Jr. endorses a candidate, many initially think that it was Jeb Sr. and not Jeb Jr. who issued the endorsement. Be that as it may, Jeb Jr.’s endorsements typically precede Jeb Sr.’s, and the endorsement is a signal that Huntsman intends to aggressively compete in Florida.

But what’s somewhat mysterious here is why Jeb Jr. is giving his imprimatur to a candidate that seems to be getting no traction whatsoever. Jeb Jr. may think that Huntsman is the “best equipped” of the field to defeat Obama, but on what basis? His conservatism? His temperament? With Huntsman barely registering in the national polls, and having finished 7th out of 8 in the Iowa Straw Poll, his campaign is not generating any excitement or momentum- let alone a compelling rationale- that is inspiring any kind of meaningful support.
