Senator Marco Rubio has long been a critic of China, and this week he joined in a bipartisan effort with Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin to introduce the “Fair Trade with China Enforcement Act.” This, they argue, will “safeguard American workers and businesses from China’s economic cheating and unfair trade practices.”
Commenting on the legislation, Senator Rubio explained that “As China undertakes a strategic effort to supplant and undermine America, we must protect our country by correcting an economic relationship that has become increasingly unbalanced. Our bipartisan bill will do just that by targeting China’s tools of economic aggression to guard the American people against its nefarious influence on national and economic security. How America responds to the growing threats posed by China is the single most important geopolitical issue of our time, and will define the 21st century.”
What the legislation ensures is that the sale of national security sensitive technology and intellectual property to China would stop, China would be taxed for its holdings of the United State’s nation debt and other investments in the U.S. Also, the legislation would ensure that the federal government doesn’t engage in business such as Huawei and ZTE, which have connections to the Chinese regime and have reputations of being accused of aiding in espionage.
