Ahead of the August 28th primaries, Congressman Ron DeSantis is leading Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam by 20 points. Before President Trump endorsed Congressman DeSantis, Putnam was leading by 20 points. In turn, President Trump joined DeSantis on the campaign trail, and he’s been surging in the polls since.
In the final GOP debate held this week, both candidates took shots at each other, and Putnam made clear how he felt about DeSantis’ candidacy.
“President Trump ran on a plan. You knew exactly what you were going to get,” explained Putnam. “You’re running on an endorsement. It takes more than that to serve 21 million people in the third largest state.”
He also added that “I wish he hadn’t put the thumb on the scale of Florida’s campaign. Having the Trump card is the only card you have — and it’s a big one — but it still means you’re not playing with a full deck.”
To this, DeSantis shot back, saying that “This is a guy who when we were trying to beat Hillary Clinton said Trump was vile, obscene, dishonorable. Never showed up at a single rally. You could have put his picture on a milk carton — no one knew where he was during the campaign.”
Both candidates have vowed to support the President should they be elected.
