Democrats are on attack mode as Florida Governor Rick Scott prepares to announce his senatorial candidacy on Monday. He’ll be running against Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, and Gwen Graham, looking to win the Democratic nomination to for her own gubernatorial campaign, sent an email to supporters slamming Governor Scott for his “polluted past.”
In the email, Graham explains that “Protecting Florida’s clean land and water used to be a bipartisan cause — but under Governor Rick Scott, Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection has become the Department of Environmental Pollution. One veto, three days before announcing a campaign, won’t cover up his 8 years of polluting our waters.”
She also added that “Rick Scott wants to go to Washington to help Donald Trump dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency, just as he destroyed environmental protections here in Florida. Floridians are going to stop him in November. And, as governor, I will protect our state’s clean water, tell special interests to get lost, and ensure our children and grandchildren can enjoy Florida’s natural treasures for years to come.”
This isn’t the first time that former congresswoman Graham attacks Governor Scott in an email. In another instance, she attacked Governor Scott on education funding.
In that email, she detailed that Governor Scott’s “first priority as governor was to cut more than $1 billion from public schools — and in 8 years, while the governor and Legislature have spent our tax dollars on their pet projects and special interests, they have failed to fully restore funding for Florida’s schools and students.”
As it stands, former congresswoman Graham is struggling in the polls, but polls also show that people are not tuning into the race to choose the sunshine state’s next Florida Governor.
