Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has been urging the GOP to have a replacement ready in time for when Obamacare is repealed. His efforts have received support from Paul Ryan and President Trump, and today Senator Paul unveiled an Obamacare replacement bill.
In a statement, Senator Paul said that “there is no excuse for waiting to craft an alternative until after we repeal Obamacare, and the Obamacare Replacement Act charts a new path forward that will insure the most people possible at the lowest price.”Repealing Obamacare was important in President Trump’s platform while on the campaign trail, and Republicans echoed the same argument heading into election day. Since President Trump’s inauguration, repealing it has been a priority.
Senator Paul’s bill comes on the same week that Republican Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana also introduced an Obamacare replacement bill that took a centrist approach to the issue. What their replacement bill entails is keeping Obamacare’s taxes and allowing states to choose whether or not they’d like to keep the current healthcare law.
