President Donald Trump will welcome bipartisan congressional leaders on Monday at the White House. It is his first gathering since taking office. The reception will happen at 5 p.m. and it is expected to touch on Trump’s legislative agenda. Key issue include: repealing and appealing the Affordable Care Act, tax reform and an infrastructure bill.
In order for the proposals to make it thru Congress Trump has to make relationships with lawmakers in both parties.
Trump will meet separately at 6 p.m. with House Speaker Paul Ryan according to the White House schedule.
Trump has also been pressing for Congress to confirm his Cabinet nominees. Only two nominees have been confirmed so far. Rep. Mike Pompeo, Trump’s pick to lead the CIA is expected to be confirmed on Monday.
It is said Democrats are slow-walking the nominees and have fallen short of the pace from confirmations of previous administrations. Democrats on the other hand are saying they think the nominees are being pushed thru without proper vetting.
