President-elect Donald Trump was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, and he said he’d consider lifting the sanctions if he was content with the relationship between both countries.
In the interview, Trump asked “If you get along and if Russia is really helping us, why would anybody have sanctions if somebody’s doing some really great things?”In addition, he said that he would be keeping the sanctions in place “at least for a period of time,” and that he would be open to meeting with Vladimir Putin after his his inauguration this week. The sanctions were placed by President Obama after the intelligence community informed him that Russia had interfered in the 2016 election that saw President-elect Trump defeat Hillary Clinton in what many political pundits saw as an upset victory.
The interference of Russia in the election has been a widely contested argument and has drawn bipartisan efforts into investigating the extent of the interference. President-elect Trump had long been skeptical of any interference, but on Wednesday he acknowledged for the first time that Russia could have been behind the hacking of Democratic groups and operatives that led to damning leaks.

It was recently announced that there was a dossier with compromising information on the President-elect, but it has been unverified and has been slammed by Trump as “fake news.”
