Carlos Gimenez defeated Raquel Regalado to secure another four years as Mayor of Miami Dade.
Running a campaign “as a skilled administrator who reduced tax rates, tamed government spending and chipped away at enduring problems facing Florida’s largest county,” as the Miami Herald reported, the night ended with a twelve point lead for Gimenez over Regalado after 99 percent of the votes were reported.
Addressing his supporters, Gimenez commented that “our message is one of the future. We are creating one of the great cities right before your eyes.”
He won with 56% of the vote against Regalado’s 44%.
