Tourist travels to Cuba, though, are still prohibited. According to the Embassy of the United States website, the categories that are authorized for you to travel to Cuba include official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations, family visits, journalistic activity, professional research and professional meetings, educational activities, religious activities, public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions, support for the Cuban people, humanitarian projects, activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes, exportation, importation, or transmission of information or informational materials, and certain authorized export transactions.
Joseph Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport, also commented that “we’re thrilled to partner with Southwest Airlines. We have the third largest Cuban-American population in the U.S., so we’re a natural market for this service.”
