A federal judge on Wednesday agreed with the Florida Democratic Party and extended the voter registration date until October 18 because of the impact of Hurricane Matthew.
Judge Mark E. Walker, of the US District Court for the North Florida District of the state, granted a preliminary injunction to the Florida Democratic Party who argued the voter registration deadline needed to be moved because of the effects of the storm.Walker was appointed in 2012 by Barack Obama and he wrote the following about his decision:

The original deadline was on Tuesday, but the judge had temporarily moved it to Wednesday so he could have a hearing on the matter.
Governor Rick Scott initially stated he would not extend the deadline because he thought people had ample time to register.
