Even though Tuesday’s election is called a primary, some of the candidates on the ballot will be elected into office. This is because either there is no opponent in November’s General Election or because the office is non partisan.
As reported by News4JAX, only republicans are seeking the high-profile state attorney and public defender posts. Posts show both incumbents may be unseated.A seven-way Republican contest for the U.S. House District 4 seat will likely pick northeast Florida’s newest member of Congress despite having a Democrat on the ballot in November. U.S. Brown is also facing two serious Democratic challengers in the redrawn 5th Congressional District.
All Jacksonville voters will also be deciding if they want a half-cent sales tax which is supposed to pay off the city’s $2.7 billion pension deficit.

There are also several Florida House of Representatives seats that will essentially decided in the primary.
A lot of Northeast Florida counties have races for sheriff. St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar is running with Republican opposition. Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler is stepping down and only Republicans are in the races. Baker and Putnam counties also have sheriffs leaving offices and have competitive races.
Clay County School Superintendent Charlie Van Zant is facing republican challenger, Addison Davis.Polls close at 7 p.m. so if you haven’t already, get out and vote.
