I thought the Democratic Party was unified and singing kumbaya?
The contentious Democratic congressional race between Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and political newbie, Nova Southeastern University Professor Tim Canova, is getting more colorful in the days leading up to the August 30th primary election.Canova, who some Democrats and Republicans call “angry” and “arrogant,” is aggressively taking every opportunity to take a pound of flesh out of the still-popular congresswoman from Weston, Florida.
When Wikileaks exposed those embarrassing DNC emails that showed how the fix was in against then-presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, and led to Wasserman Schultz’s departure as head of the Democratic Party, the Nova Southeastern University professor sensed political blood in the water.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
In case you have been living under some coral reef off the Florida coast, there is a “yuge” divide between Canova’s Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party, and Wasserman Schultz’s Hillary Clintonites, who just so happen to run the national political party.
Believe it or not, ‘DWS’ and Canova have never met.
This is completely unrelated to the story, but I need to point out that Nova’s mascot “Razor the Shark” is an old friend of the Shark Tank.Back to the story.
Canova is now filing a complaint against Wasserman Schultz with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) claiming that as chair of the DNC, Wasserman Schultz used “DNC resources to undermine his campaign.”
Oy Vey! Wasserman Schultz In Jeopardy Of Losing Re-Election To Canova?
Of course Team Wasserman Schultz is dismissing the complaint as having “no merit.”
Former Tallahassee-based media pooh bah and Wasserman Schultz spokesman Ryan Banfill, stated the following:
“Once again, the Congresswoman’s opponent is wasting her constituents’ time with attacks based on stolen, cherry-picked information and continues to ignore the issues that actually matter to the people of the 23rd Congressional district…The Congresswoman’s opponent may have little familiarity with Democrats in the district, but Debbie Wasserman Schultz has served the community for over two decades and knows full well that voters are focused on the facts — not made-up smears and distractions…It’s time he got serious.”-Ryan Banfill (Politico)
What Canova stated in his complaint against ‘DWS’:
“Wasserman Schultz had a fiduciary duty to the DNC and ultimately to the public to be a fair arbitrator and to separate her obligations as a candidate for federal office from her position as chair of a national committee.”
“She had a legal obligation to institute a firewall between her campaign and the DNC,” the complaint alleges. “Instead, the record establishes that she used her position with the DNC and the resources of the DNC to improperly benefit her congressional campaign.”
More from the complaint…
“On numerous occasions … used its resources to track my campaign, interfere with my campaign events and to assist the Wasserman Schultz campaign in her personal communications strategy.”
DNC paid a team of national, senior communications and political professionals significant sums of money for their consulting services and the Wasserman Schultz for Congress Campaign utilized these services free of charge.”
Still more from Canova…
Not sure what Canova will get out of the complaint aside from free earned media. Like all races, this one will come down to votes.“For months, Debbie Wasserman Schultz pretended to be unaware and unconcerned about my campaign. But as we grew, the emails show she was quite concerned. Even as she dodged calls for debates and public forums, she spent plenty of time with her DNC staff monitoring my campaign and strategizing on how to crush it.”
To his credit, Canova’s aggressive fundraising and anti-Debbie rhetoric seams to have really stirred the pot in Florida’s 23rd congressional district, and has pressured Wasserman Schultz into debating her primary opponent.
Wasserman Schultz has agreed to at least one of the six debates Canova has asked for.
Wasserman Schultz Folds, Agrees To Debate Primary Opponent Tim Canova
The latest public opinion polls show Wasserman Schultz with a comfortable lead over Canova.
Regardless of whether or not he loses to Wasserman Schultz, something tells me that we will be hearing a lot more of Canova in the coming years.
