With about three weeks until the August 30th primary election here in Florida, there are still several Republican primary races that are too close to call, regardless of what some public opinion polling states.
Here are the races where there isn’t a clear frontrunner, or that could be considered ‘toss ups.’FL CD 1– Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) could have the advantage in this race, but he is in a crowded field of candidates who could split the vote enough to cause him to lose. (This can be said of all the crowded races)
The winner of this race will be the next member of Congress from Florida’s panhandle.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
FL CD 2 – ACU endorsed Mary Thomas appears to be on her way to winning the GOP nomination over Dr. Neal Dunn. The winner of this primary will have an easy path to victory in the general election.
FL CD 4 – Rep. Lake Ray (R) finds himself trailing Hans Tanzler and former JAX Sheriff John Rutherford, but could wind up pulling an upset with the Marco Rubio-esque grassroots campaign he has mounted. Rutherford is considered the favorite but has been questioned about his ties to individuals with possible ties to radical Islam.
FL CD 6 – Before Rep. Ron DeSantis (R) (pictured) decided to run for reelection, this race was pretty hotly contested with no less than 4 congressional candidates vying to replace the popular conservative congressman. When DeSantis made the announcement he was dropping out of the U.S. Senate primary race, the only congressional candidate that decided to challenge DeSantis was Rep. Fred Costello (R). DeSantis will easily win this race.FL CD 18 – At first glance, the GOP congressional primary race to replace outgoing Rep. Patrick Murphy (R) appeared to be Army veteran Brian Mast’s to lose. Mast’s story of survival moved the country, but may not have been enough to counter millions of dollars his competitors are spending to win this race.
Former Rep. Carl Domino (R) and Dr. Mark Freeman are self-funding. Rebecca Negron, wife of incoming Senate President Joe Negron, who has raised big money from special interests in Tallahassee, could now be considered as the frontrunner in the race. Attorney Rick Kozell as fallen off the face of the political map, but has been able to raise enough money to make the race a complete excrement show.
FL CD 19 – Former Ambassador Francis Rooney looks to be on a path to victory, at least that is how it looks on paper and on TV. Rooney is spending big bucks to win this race, but is facing stiff competition from Sanibel City Councilman Chauncey Goss, whose press-the-flesh grassroots push could prove successful in the end.
Former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino seems to be dead on arrival. According to southwest Florida residents, Bongino attends local forums and events, but aside from his almost daily street corner sign-waving initiatives, he is nowhere to be found.
Remember, like in all campaigns, money talks and almost always wins elections. As far as the Democrats go, there are really only to congressional races worth mentioning.
FL CD 5 -Embattled and indicted Rep. Corrine Brown (D) is struggling against former state Senator Al Lawson. Brown may have a slight advantage but her legal problems could eventually sink her campaign in the general election, if she gets that far.
FL CD 26 – This race is a spicy as the come. Former U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia (D) is running for congress for the 20th time. Just kidding, it’s only his fourth run for the U.S. Congress. Garcia is running against former Miami-Dade Democratic Chairwoman Annette Taddeo.
The winner of this hot mess of a primary race will face incumbent Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo.
