While at a Chamber of Commerce event yesterday I heard the buzz about a new candidate the Republicans were trying to get into the race to challenge Angela Corey for her state attorney position. When I got home, I saw what all the buzz was about.
Melissa Nelson is the newest challenger to enter the race. She is a former assistant state attorney and she served briefly under Corey after she succeeded Shorstein in 2009. Currently she works at McGuireWoods, LLP.Nelson entered the race late in the game and the hardest obstacle she will face is name recognition. There is only four months left before the election and she will have to introduce herself to the voters and convince them she is a better alternative to Corey and Wesley White.
One thing she will not have to worry about is money. She is expected to have the support of the Jacksonville legal community who are not pleased with Angela Corey. A lot of the high profile attorneys in the area actually lobbied her to jump in the race.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
In addition, some of the biggest Republican fund-raisers have not donated to Corey or White. This opens the possibility that Nelson will have there support and financial backing.
Some republicans do not agree with the way incumbent Angela Corey dealt with the trials of Marissa Alexander, George Zimmerman, Michael Dunn and Rubon Ebron. They feel those controversial trials have paved the way for her defeat this year. We will find out soon if they were right.
