Gun-toting (doesn’t actually carry a gun like Yosemite Sam) state Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fort Walton Beach, R) wants to go to Washington, D.C.
The younger Gaetz, who was running for his dad’s (Sen. Don Gaetz) open state Senate seat, has decided that he will instead run for the U.S. Congress in Florida’s 1st congressional district.Florida’s CD 1 seat is currently held by Rep. Jeff Miller, but Miller has decided to call it at day, leaving the seat wide open for any conservative and well connected Republican to take.
The seat is a very safe Republican seat, so whomever wins the Republican primary race is all but assured to become the next member of Congress from the Panhandle of Florida.

Gaetz, who will undoubtedly receive major support from the gun lobby, and Second Amendment enthusiasts for pushing for an open-carry law in Florida, is on record saying that he will put in some of his own money to help fund his congressional campaign.
Gaetz and his family have the money to self-fund if it came down to that.
