Florida’s coveted Republican-held U.S. Senate seat is one 10 seats expected to flip in the 2016 election cycle.
When Senator Marco Rubio (R) decided to vacate his very safe Senate seat and run for president, Democrats began to plan in earnest on how to win back the seat, as Republicans worried about who could fill Rubio’s shoes in the Senate.Rubio’s political legacy won’t be anchored on the fact that he lost in the 2016 Republican presidential primary to Donald Trump, but rather that because he decided not to run for re-election to the Senate, the once considered safe seat he holds could be lost to the Democrats.
