Jeb Bush is thinking about endorsing Marco Rubio but after presidential campaign clashes, it is not certain he will or if it will make a difference for Rubio in Florida.
During the campaign Bush constantly called Rubio a “backbench” senator of little accomplishment. He also accused him of “cutting and running” on the Gang of Eight immigration bill and he suggested he has nothing in his background that would indicate he could make a “tough decision.”Since Bush dropped out of the race last month, now he has to decide whether or not he wants to endorse his former opponent before Florida’s primary on March 15.
A former Bush campaign official told CNN, it’s a “possibility” Bush will endorse Rubio, especially if Bush thinks it will “make a difference and slow Trump down.”
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The former staffer also said the endorsement would not be awkward even though Bush and Rubio really attacked each other toward the end of Bush’s campaign.
It was also mentioned an endorsement from Bush will not make or break Rubio’s bid in Florida.I think the governor was pretty straight about it, that he always said, ‘This is my view on (Rubio’s) experience and accomplishment, but he’s a friend.’ I think the governor’s a big enough of an adult to forget that stuff. I don’t think that’s going to keep (an endorsement) from happening.
Florida with its 99 delegates is widely considered Rubio’s last stand. If he does not win his home state it will be time for him to drop out. The latest Quinnipiac Poll showed Trump with a double digit lead over Rubio 44 percent to 28 percent.
Senator Ted Cruz is also trying to win Florida. He wants to narrow the race between him and Trump.
When Rubio was asked on Saturday by CNN’s Dana Bash whether he approached Bush for his support he refused to discuss his private discussions with Bush but he said he had admiration for him and welcomes as many endorsements he can get.
I will always have tremendous affection and respect for him despite the fact that — because of a weird quick of fate — we ended up running for the same office at the same time. I did not run for president to stop Jeb Bush. I ran for president because believe that America’s greatest days lie ahead if we do what needs to be done right now in 2016.
