Wesley White is running against incumbent Angela Corey for State Attorney, 4th Judicial Circuit.
Corey has been in the news recently for the Lonzie Barton case. Lonzie Barton was the two-year old child who died while being babysat by his mother’s drug dealer boyfriend Reuben Ebron. In exchange for telling to the prosecutors where the baby’s body was, Corey agreed to give Ebron a plea deal for 20 years in jail for involuntary manslaughter. We reached out to Corey to have her join the interview and she did not respond.
Many voters do not know enough about candidates before they go to the voting booth. This interview series is an effort to change that.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Below is our exchange with Wesley White:
SHARK TANK: What is your position on the rape kits that have yet been sent for processing? Is it an internal backlog error as some media outlets are eluding it is or due to something else?
WESLEY WHITE: FDLE has recently provided its own statistical assessment as to why there is a backlog of unprocessed rape kits. Unfortunately, underlying those statistics is an abject failure of law enforcement, prosecutors, and the State of Florida to prioritize these horrific and violent crimes. Now as those rape test kits are beginning to be processed, women are frequently being told that because of the passage of time their cases are no longer prosecutable even though there has been a match of DNA and identification of an offender. There is no war on women in this country, but as to sexual batteries, there is a malignant neglect. Should I be elected State Attorney, funds will be found and prosecutorial resources marshalled to immediately address this black eye to the criminal justice system.SHARK TANK: What is your position on gun rights in the State of Florida?
WESLEY WHITE: I am profoundly and unequivocally a supporter of the Second Amendment and I am a Life Member of the NRA. We need to be honest with ourselves as citizens of this country – violent crime is once again on the rise, the government of the United States is no longer constrained by the Constitution and the rule of law, and we are being assailed by foreign enemies. In short, the Second Amendment has never been more relevant to maintaining our freedom and safety.
SHARK TANK: Why did you resign during Angela Corey’s second term in office?
WESLEY WHITE: Actually, I informed Ms. Corey at the end of her first term of office that I did not wish to be reappointed in her second term. There were a number of factors involved, but principally, she had left the course that she had charted when she was first elected. Campaign promises to the public had faded from her memory.
SHARK TANK: Recently there has been an increase in violence towards cops. What are you doing to offset this violence?WESLEY WHITE: I will not tolerate violence to any law enforcement officer, first responder, or medical provider who risks their health and safety in service to the public. This will be a bright line that may not be crossed. Prosecution to the fullest extent of the law will be the order of the day – every day.
SHARK TANK: President Obama has imposed federal guidelines for law enforcement agencies across the United States. Do you agree with his guidelines and would you abide by them?
WESLEY WHITE: The federal government is trying to intrude into every aspect of local and state government. That intrusion into local law enforcement is unwanted, unnecessary, and threatens state’s rights, and while it may seem benign, it is not. If there is a choice between accepting federal funds and thereby having to follow federal mandates, I won’t accept the funds.
