Two of the U.S. military service chiefs think women should now be required to register for the draft after the Defense Department opened up all combat jobs to women.
Marine Corps Commandant General Robert Neller and Army Chief of Staff General Mark Milley agreed that the current policy which requires men to register for Selective Service System should be amended to add women.Neller said:
Every American who’s physically qualified should register for the draft.

In 1981 the Supreme Court upheld Congress’ decision to exempt women from registering for the draft on the basis that since women were restricted from combat they would not be needed in the event of a draft.
Justice William Rehnquist wrote:The existence of combat restrictions clearly indicates the basis for Congress’ decision to exempt women from registration.
