For whatever reason, state Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla (R-Miami), who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, has “killed” the pro-gun bill, SB68.
De la Portilla says he doesn’t think the bill ” is a Second Amendment issue,” saying that the issue at hand has nothing to do with the Second Amendment, rather everything to do with campus safety.
“I think what we’re talking about here is campus safety and the best way to address that issue and whether the proposed cure is worse than the disease.”-Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla (R-Miami), Miami Herald
Did he just say that guns are the problem?
To Diaz de la Portilla’s credit, he did agree to let his committee hear the open-carry piece of legislation that Senator Gaetz has offered up. Gaetz’s SB300 gun bill mirrors his son Rep. Matt Gaetz’s bill over in the House.
Both of these bills could allow concealed-carry licensees to openly carry guns, ala Yosemite Sam.
