A group of Cuban migrants have started to arrive in Miami. They are the first of the expected thousands of Cubans to enter the United States.
The number of Cuban migrants to the United States spiked after the announcement that U.S. Cuban relations were on the mend. As reported by CNN, U.S. immigration laws have considered Cuban refugees needing asylum but it has not been updated since Obama mended ways with Cuba.
8,000 Cubans are making the journey to America. The initial group of 180 Cubans left on a flight to El Salvador last Tuesday and entered the United States via Texas last week. Over the weekend they also started arriving in Miami where there is a large Cuban-American population.
Catholic Social Services in Laredo are prepared to help the most desperate as larger waves of Cuban migrants are expected to arrive this week.
