Starting on January 1, police in California might start confiscating guns from gun owners who they feel are a threat to themselves or to others without giving them notice.
As reported by Breitbart, this is due to the implementation of “gun violence restraining orders” (GVROs) which go into effect on New Years Day 2016.According to KPCC, GVRO’s:
could be issued without prior knowledge of the person. In other words, a judge could issue the order without ever hearing from the person in question, if there are reasonable grounds to believe the person is a threat based on accounts from family and police.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The Los Angeles Police Department does not use the word “confiscate” when talking about firearms. They try to use a more gentle approach saying:
It means the same thing so they should call it what it is.The law gives us vehicle to cause the person to surrender their weapons, to have a time out, if you will.
California law already bans people from possessing guns if they’ve committed a violent crime or were committed to a mental health facility involuntarily. Now the GVROs will allow California judges to bar people from possessing guns even if they have not committed a violent crime or were involuntarily committed.
