On Friday presidential candidate Donald Trump issued an endorsement of Representative David Jolly’s (R-FL) Thin Blue Act. The Act is congressional legislation mandating stiffer penalties for cop killers.
Trump told a large group of supporters during a campaign stop on Thursday in New Hampshire:One of the first things I’d do in terms of executive order if I win would be to sign a strong, strong statement that will go out to the country, out to the world, that anybody caught killing a policeman, policewoman, police officer — anybody killing a police officer: death penalty. It’s gonna happen.
The Act otherwise known as H.R. 814 was introduced in February and is supported by the Fraternal Order of Police, Major County Sheriff’s Association, the National Association of Police Organizations, the International Union of Police Associations, the Council of Prison Locals and the Florida Sheriff’s Association.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Congressman Jolly said:
Congressman Jolly’s bill would make the murder of a law enforcement officer, firefighter or first responder an aggravating factor in death penalty determinations. My bill simply says this – if you take the life of a law enforcement officer, be prepared to lose your own. I encourage all presidential candidates and Americans alike to rally behind my legislation to protect our brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day for us.
Current law states the homicide of a federal public servant, such as federal agents, politicians and federal judges, is an aggravating factor for the death penalty during sentencing. The Thin Blue Line Act would extend the same treatment to state and local law enforcement and first responders when they are are acting under federal jurisdiction.
