The Republican response to presidential candidate Donald Trump’s statement that Muslims should be temporarily kept from entering the U.S., has been nothing less than hard and swift. Read more about Trump’s remarks here.
Every single one of Trump’s Republican presidential primary opponents have spoken out against his remarks, as have a growing number of members of the U.S. Congress, including Speaker Ryan, and Senate candidate, Rep. David Jolly (FL).While Ryan denounced Trump at a press conference, Jolly, who is considered the frontrunner in Florida’s Senate race to replace Senator Marco Rubio, took to the House floor and gave a passionate speech calling on Trump to quit the presidential race.
Mr. Speaker, I rise today to call on Donald Trump to withdraw his candidacy for he White House.-Rep. David Jolly
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Jolly, who has been one of the most vocal proponents in the House for the authorization of  the use of more aggressive military force to defeat ISIL, called on all Republicans to join him in demanding that Trump end his presidential candidacy.
Jolly added the following statement:“While ISIS is beheading innocent people for their religious practices, Trump is betraying our freedoms…His brutal, bullying bigotry runs contrary to the very principles our forefathers fought so hard to defend. We are either a party of protecting the constitution and religious liberties or we’re not. America should insist on a security test but never a religious test.”
Two of Jolly’s Republican Senate primary opponents, Todd Wilcox and Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, chimed in on Trump’s remarks.
Rep. Ron DeSantis could not be reached for comment.“Religious tests are not what we’re about in this country and serious people understand that’s not how to keep us safe. That’s what Islamic extremists do. ISIS demands Christians renounce their faith, and when they won’t, they behead them. Strict security screenings and a rebuilding of our intelligence community that this President has dismantled, those are rational and reasonable steps.” –Todd Wilcox
As a husband and father, I like so many, am concerned about the threats confronting America and her allies, but we need to be focused on holding the president accountable for his failures to take the threat of ISIS seriously and demand a plan to eradicate ISIS. A religious test is not a strategy to defeat ISIS.”-Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera
There is a pretty good chance Trump ignores the call for him to step down.
