On Thursday the Senate passed legislation repealing the core pillars of Obamacare and are sending the bill to Obama’s desk for the first time.
Republicans are hailing it as a political victory. They are fulfilling their election promise they would force President Obama to veto it.The Hill reported it passed 52 to 47 after the Senate voted to significantly strengthen the bill originally passed by the House.
Before it can be sent to Obama, the House needs to approve the amendment.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Thursday’s vote on the bill was a major event in the Senate because the Democrats never allowed a standalone vote on Obamacare repeal bill when they were in control of the chamber.
Mitch McConnell said on the floor:
For too long, Democrats did everything to prevent Congress from passing the type of legislation necessary to help these Americans who are hurting. Today, that ends.
The approved measure would gut the law, repealing the authority of the federal government to run healthcare exchanges and scrapping subsidies to help people afford plans bought through the exchanges. It also zeros out the penalties on individuals who do not buy insurance and employers who do not offer health insurance.
