Former Congresswoman and current candidate for Florida’s 6th Congressional District, The Honorable Sandy Adams, today announced she is suspending her congressional campaign. Shocking and saddening many friends and supporters, Adams issued this statement:
“I recently discovered a significant health issue that demands my focus and attention. I decided to run in Florida’s 6th District because I care deeply for our county and my family’s future. With very young grandchildren, I fear for the direction of our nation and what we are leaving future generations if we don’t make the necessary choices when it comes to our national security and our spending decisions.I know that together we can make a difference and that’s why I became a candidate. Over the next several weeks, I will be focusing on my health and will reassess my campaign to determine if I can give it a 100% commitment. I owe that to my family, and to the residents of the 6th District.”
The conservative Republican Adams was elected to Congress in 2010, on the wave of the same Tea Party movement that also brought Congressman Daniel Webster into Congress. Unfortunately, due to redistricting, Adams was forced into a primary in 2012 with popular Congressman John Mica, who ultimately won the primary and the general election. Adams took a step back back after that to focus on her family, but always stay informed and involved. Many were delighted when Adams announced she would seek election to the 6th Congressional seat currently held by Congressman Ron DeSantis, who is vacating that seat to run for the U.S. Senate. Many are offering prayers and support for Rep Sandy Adams and her family.
