On Tuesday, Jacksonville mayor Lenny Curry sent letters to Florida representatives asking them to do all they can to stop Syrian refugees from setting foot on American soil.
As reported by First Coast News, Curry sent out letters to Senators Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson, and Representatives Ander Crenshaw and Corrine Brown. In the letters, Curry stressed that safety is his top priority and in the wake of the Paris attacks he is “more committed than every” to keep Jacksonville residents safe and eliminate threats to the city.
Senator Nelson released a statement shortly after Curry’s letters saying that while he believes America must remain a country compassionate to those in need, security comes first.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Nelson also wanted to know how Obama planned on vetting the refugees:
Congressman Crenshaw said he would like proper screening processes to be in place and that he was throwing his support behind a temporary stay in Syrian refugees being allowed in the U.S.I want to know how they will screen these refugees to ensure that there are absolutely no potential national security or terrorism concerns.
He was the co-sponsor of the Refugee Resettlement Oversight and Security Act that would temporary suspend allowing Syrian refugees into America and increase congressional power over immigration.
