The Obama administration is definitely not happy about what happened on Monday but it was Obama himself who said several times he could not pass immigration reform by executive action.
A federal appeals court has since rejected Obama’s effort to move forward a series of executive actions he announced in regards to immigration reform. As reported by POLITICO, the 2-1 decision was from the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit court and it is a defeat for the Obama administration.
The timing of the decision had become of increasing concern to the Obama administration and immigrant rights’ groups. His latest round of executive actions had been on hold since January and the delay in the appeals court was raising doubt whether the Supreme Court would resolve the case prior to Obama leaving office.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Apparently with the ruling on Monday the Supreme Court will have enough time to rule on the issue. Obama is hoping the Supreme Court would uphold his executive actions so he can leave office on a high note with democrats and illegal immigrants.
Marielena Hincapie, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center had the following to say about the ruling:
Immigrant families & their US citizen children have been waiting anxiously for the 5th Circuit to rule. Now, we call on the DOJ to seek cert before the Supreme Court immediately where we are more likely to obtain justice for our communities.
