While his operatives and consultants will tell you that they feel he’s in a great political position, and that they feel he is doing all the right things to win the Republican nomination for president in 2016, the most recent poll of Republican voters in Florida tells a different story about former Governor Jeb Bush popularity within the GOP ranks.
Bush has fallen to 9-percent support in the new University of North Florida poll.Trump is still at the top, followed by Ben Carson, and then Senator Marco Rubio.
The poll also shows that 54 percent of those voters favor various immigration policies that allow “unauthorized immigrants” the ability to legally stay in the United States.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Both Bush and his former protégé and friend, Rubio, favor policies that legalize some undocumented immigrants. But Rubio is more popular than Bush and runs in third, with 14.9 percent of the GOP vote. Carson, a West Palm Beach resident, is at 19.3 percent. Trump, a part-time Palm Beach resident, is at 21.7 percent.
To say that Bush is in trouble in his home state is a huge understatement.
We knew Rubio was popular among Republicans, even with his support and co-sponsoring of the disastrous Senate “Gang of Ocho” immigration reform bill in 2013, but the reason for Bush’s decent from the top of the polls Florida could be his recent attacks against Rubio.Rubio is supposed to be his friend, and someone who many Florida Republicans still feel is the future of the GOP, regardless of his past change of position is support of a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
My take on the race
Bush supporters have Rubio as their #2 in the race. So, anyone leaving team Bush is most likely going over to Rubio’s team.
As for Trump and Carson, a good portion of their supporters, if they jump ship, will likely go to Ted Cruz, and some to Rubio.
Cruz is considered the most trustworthy and principled of the GOP presidential candidates, leaving many of these Trump and Carson supporters “purist” voters to support Cruz before they back Rubio.Meanwhile, the nation waits to see if Vice President Joe Big F-cking Deal” Biden officially enters the Democratic presidential primary race.
