On Tuesday the United States Supreme Court will hear arguments that could end Florida’s death penalty.
As reported by News4Jax, it comes just before former state attorney Harry Shorstein’s push for the state legislature to change the law. He wants a defendant not be sentenced to death unless there is a unanimous verdict.Shorstein says there needs to be changes to Florida’s death penalty. He says most states require a 12-to-0 vote before sentencing a defendant to death. Two other states require a super-majority vote of 10-2 but Florida on requires a majority vote.
