Governor Rick Scott of Florida announced today the Florida National Guard is re-opening the state’s six store-front recruitment centers and National Guard Personnel have also returned upon completion of new safety upgrades. These upgrades include the arming of all qualified full-time guardsman, the enhancement of store-front infrastructures, and the assignment of an additional armed security office.
In a press release , Governor Scott took the time to complement Florida Adjutant General Michael Calhoun.“I commend Adjutant General Calhoun for his leadership and quick action as we implemented these new protocols and I am grateful for the brave men and women of the National Guard who stand ready to defend our homes and our families today. I will continue to do everything in my power to protect our military members here in Florida”.
Governor Scott also called upon President Obama to take note of what Florida was doing and to take similar action to protect every branch of our military.

In response, Florida Adjutant General Calhoun said, “Governor Scott has made it clear that the safety of our Guardsman is a top priority in Florida. Today, our state’s six store-front recruitment centers are open and our Guardsmen inside are actively and proudly recruiting new heroes.”.
This action comes as a result and response to last month’s shootings in Chattanooga, TN, during an attack on a recruitment center and a military facility that killed 5 Servicemen. Immediately after the shootings, Governor Scott temporarily relocated the recruitment centers to their closest National Guard Armory while developing plans to make these centers safe. The security protocols put in place will be monitored and modified as necessary based on the acuity of the national security threat to that area.
