State Representative Scott Plakon (R-Longwood) filed a bill on Monday that would shield churches and clergy members from liability if they refuse to perform marriages that violate their beliefs.
As reported by News4Jax, Plakon filed the bill to counteract the U.S. Supreme Court in June ruling same sex couples have the right to get married. After that ruling he went on Facebook vowing along he and Senator Aaron Bean (R-Fernandina Beach) would file the “Pastor Protection Act.”
The bill Plakon filed on Monday (HB 43) would also protect churches, religious organizations and their employees.
