Senate Republicans failed to get the 60 votes necessary to stop federal taxpayer dollars for Planned Parenthood, a move that could lead to a federal shutdown that could impact the 2016 elections.
The legislation that was drafted by Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R) and put to a vote, was in response to the series of Center for Medical Progress undercover videos, which outing Planned Parenthood and its affiliates of harvesting aborted fetus organs for possible sale.
The videos speak for themselves, and as always, so does Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D), who just questioned the Republican Party’s “moral compass” for wanting to defund Planned Parenthood.

Reid and most of his fellow Democrats voted in favor of keeping Planned Parenthood federally funded, in essence, supporting the continued practice of abortion and the brokering of these baby body parts.
Now who has lost their moral compass? Here is what some prominent and “moral compass-lacking” Republicans had to say about defunding Planned Parenthood:
Democrats are also getting onboard with Republicans, and have come out to denounce the videos.“The American taxpayer should not be asked to fund an organization like Planned Parenthood that has shown a sheer disdain for human dignity and complete disregard for women and their babies.”-Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA)
There can be no denying that Planned Parenthood is a morally bankrupt organization. Americans of conscience might disagree on the legality of abortion. It is a contentious issue that elicits deep passions. But as a country, we should at least be able to find common ground on acknowledging and respecting the humanity and basic dignity of both the mother and the unborn child. It is clear from the videos that Planned Parenthood long ago stopped acknowledging either. At Planned Parenthood, women are treated as paying clients, not patients. Unborn children are treated as cells and tissues, not human beings. The organs and limbs of babies are treated as commodities, for sale to the highest bidder on an open market. And taxpayers are forced to fund this.-Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Life News
There will be congressional investigations, to cut through the obstructions and obfuscations already undertaken by Planned Parenthood’s lawyers, spokespeople, and friends in the media.
There will be criminal investigations into whether physicians altered procedures – in violation of the law and medical ethics – to maximize the prices they could charge for the remains of their victims. And inquiries into Planned Parenthood’s army of clerks, lawyers, and bookkeepers who turned barbarism into commerce.-Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has openly stated that the videos were “disturbing” even though she still supports Planned Parenthood as a whole.
Sen. Manchin was one of the rare Democrats that sided with Republicans.
“Until these allegations have been answered and resolved, I do not believe that taxpayer money should be used to fund this organization; instead those funds should be sent to other health care providers, including community health centers, which provide important women’s healthcare services.- Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), National Journal
