There has not been a lot of coverage about the latest cyber attack for some reason.
Last week a key military email system was attacked and it still remains offline. According the CNN the attack is being described by the military as “serious.”For almost a week, approxiametly 4,000 key military and civilian personnel working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff have not been able to access their unclassified email. It is now believed the cause behind it was an intrusion into the Pentagon server which handles the email network.
The U.S. Cyber Command is investigating the incident and they are also trying to determine if the hack has affected other government servers as well.

So far, it does not seem as if any classified information has been compromised.
After the attack the military decided to take the system offline and they are unsure when it will be up and running again.
The email accounts affected were used by all the staffers who work for General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs. It is believed the unclassified information comprised could be anything from operational to budget matters. As of now, most senior officials have been given alternative email systems to use and a lot of the work was shifted to a highly secure classified network.
