It is one thing when you stand up to someone falsely accusing you and another thing when you try to make yourself someone you are not.
On Saturday night while hosting a town hall in Iowa, presidential hopeful Governor Chris Christie ripped into a gun activist who accused him of being anti-gun.Christie said:
I’m still waiting for one fact from you, one fact about me being anti-gun. Give me one. One fact. Got one?
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
During the four minute exchange with a man affiliated with the Iowa Gun Owners group the man pointed out a 20-year-old Christie campaign ad which included Christie attacking an opponent for wanting to repeal an assault weapon ban in New Jersey.
Christie said:
That ad was from 1995. Let me ask you this, if you haven’t changed your mind once in 20 years, if you haven’t changed your mind in 20 years on any issue, then I’ll tell you, you’re not a thinking, breathing, living human being.
Christie also told the man:
Don’t come in front of this group of people and lie about my record which is what you did.
Actually the guy did not lie about Christie’s records, he just wasn’t well versed on it.
The following are some examples why Christie is not gun friendly. Do not let his recent actions on gun control fool you. He was only trying to make it look like he was pro gun because he knew he was running for president and if you look at the time line, one action was done the night before he announced and another was done less then a month prior.
During an interview with Fox News Sunday on November 10, 2013 Christie admitted to Fox News gun control is part of controlling violence in the United States. Then in 2009 Christie opposed a move in Congress that would have allowed an override of New Jersey’s strict gun laws against concealed weapons even though the whole Republican House voted for it. The “right-to-carry reciprocity” bill would have allowed anyone with a valid permit to carry in their home state to have the same right in any other states.
Christie told The Record in July of 2009:
I believe that each state should have the right to make firearms laws as they see fit. I don’t believe it’s right for the federal government to get into the middle of this and decide firearms laws for the people of the state of NJ.
Because of his opposition, if you bring a firearm into New Jersey even if you have a right to carry permit from another state you will be thrown in jail. This happens all the time and it has destroyed citizens lives.
One of the most damning statements of all came during a 2009 interview with Fox News.Christie was asked “are there any issues where you are moderate to left as a Republican?” Christie answered:
I favor some of the gun-control measures we have in NJ.
He was asked to elaborate and he said:
New Jersey has some of the most strict gun control laws in the United States. If you want a gun it is nearly impossible and you have to wait up to six months to get a permit just to have a gun in your house and if you want a carry permit, forget it. You have to know someone or be a retired police officer. We have a densely populated state, and there’s a big handgun problem in NJ.
So yes, Christie is anti Second Amendment. Protestors, bring your note cards next time.
