McCarthy said a lot of the shootings are gang related.
During eight of those incidents police officers were threatened or shot at and returned fire. Police wounded five people and killed two of them.McCarthy stated:
Officers do not relish using a weapon in the course of their work. But when they find themselves in confrontations . . . they must do what is best to protect themselves and the public.
A lot of the shooters have been teenagers as young as 14-years old.
Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel said:
A lot of people will say where were the police and what were the police doing? And that’s a fair question, but not the only question. Where are the parents?
Obviously Chicago is having a hard time controlling the gangs and youth in the city. What do they blame it on? Guns of course even though they have some of the most strict gun laws in the United States.
Emanuel also said:
The gun violence that was part of this weekend was totally unacceptable to every resident from the city of Chicago regardless of where they live. Where are the parents? Where are the communities? Where are the gun law?
Maybe if Emanuel was doing a better job running the city, he wouldn’t have such a big problem.
