In less than two weeks, Florida Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera is expected to announce that he is running for the U.S. Senate in 2016. Lopez-Cantera has been hinting at the run for several months, and at the recent Miami-Dade Republican Lincoln Day dinner, the LG made it very clear that he would be hard-pressed not to run for the Senate seat his amigo Senator Marco Rubio was giving up in order to run for President.
Lopez-Cantera hasn’t been saying much in regards to policy, but after President Obama announced that the U.S. would be reopening its embassy in Havana, Cuba, and that Cuba would be allowed to open its own embassy in Washington, D.C., Lopez-Cantera sounded off against Obama, saying that the president has condoned and rewarded the Castro regime’s decades-long human rights atrocities. Here is what Lopez-Cantera tweeted out. Not only did “CLC” tweet out his remarks in English, he also did it in Espanol.
Yeah, even though he doesn’t fit the mold that Democrats have painted all Hispanics as being (dark, indigenous-looking, and wearing a sombrero), Lopez-Cantera can scarf down a plate of Boliche and plantains quicker than you can say Latin American pasteleria and cafeteria.
Sad irony that as U.S. celebrates 240 years of independence, Obama recognizes and rewards 56 years of Castros’ oppression on Cuban people.

Triste ironía que al celebrar EEUU 240 años de indepcencia, Obama reconoce y premia la opresión de 56 años de los Castros contra Cubanos.

Lopez-Cantera would be entering a Republican primary race against conservative Rep. Ron DeSantis, who has already received the support of the Club for Growth, and other conservative groups.
DeSantis also ripped the president Obama embassy announcement, stating that “the establishment of an embassy, which effectively embraces Cuba’s oppressive government, is another slap in the face of the Cuban-Americans who fled Castro’s tyranny for freedom.”
Rep. Jeff Miller (R) from Florida’s panhandle, is also expected to jump into the Senate race and challenge “CLC” and DeSantis.
As far as the Democrats are concerned, they may have their hands full with a contentious senate primary of their own. Rep. Patrick Murphy is their pick, but liberal Rep. Alan Grayson is threatening to get into the primary race against Murphy.
