The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday 6.4 million people can continue to get subsidies which would allow them to purchase healthcare plans under Obamacare.
It was a 6-3 decision that was authored by Chief Justice John Roberts and seen as a huge victory for President Obama.According to The Hill, Roberts argued that a ruling killing off subsidies would set the state markets into a death spiral and that was not the intent of Congress.
He wrote:
Justice Antonin Scalia did not agree and lambasted both the Obama administration and Justice Roberts. He said:take our poll - story continues belowDo you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)

It is implausible that Congress meant the Act to operate in this manner.
The argument that the phrase ‘established by the State’ would be superfluous if Congress meant to extend tax credits to both State and Federal Exchanges is unpersuasive.

Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas joined him in his dissent.
The usual suspects who joined Robert in his opinion were Justice Anthony Kennedy and the other liberal judges.
Roberts was been notably quiet during the oral arguments of the case and many speculated that he would rule in favor of Obamacare for the second time in three years.
To their surprise, not only did he rule in favor of it, he also wrote the majority opinion and saved the law from defeat.Roberts also said:
Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them. If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter.
