Republican Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal announced on Wednesday that he is running for president.
He made his informal announcement on Twitter and followed it up with a formal announcement in a New Orleans suburb at approximately 5 p.m.Jindal is the first Indian American in United States history to ever be a serious candidate for president. Even though that is a great accomplishment, his chances of winning the GOP nomination have been said to be very low.

His aides and advisers have urged everyone not to count him out. They said he is fearless and his recent declared opposition to gay marriage and an executive order on religious freedom show he is willing to take on the establishment wing of the party.
As reported by the Washington Post, one aide said:
He’s not afraid to talk about things that normal politicians are nervous to talk about.
Jindal was born in Louisiana to Indian immigrants and has been outspoken about how immigrants need to assimilate into American culture. He says people who call themselves Indian Americans and African Americans should simply identify as Americans first.
He also said people who believe in “radical Islam” should be banned from coming to the United States.
During a conservative think tank in March, the Guardian reported he said:
