The 2016 U.S. Senate race in Florida to replace Senator Marco Rubio, who has decided to run for president and not re-election to the Senate, will be getting a bit more crowded after this weekend.
Florida Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, who has stated that he in strongly considering running for Rubio’s Senate seat, is expected to announce that his is running for Rubio’s senate seat at the upcoming Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee’s annual Lincoln Day dinner in Miami, Florida.Lopez-Cantera, or ‘CLC,’ as he is known in some political circles, is also a very close friend with Senator Marco Rubio, and could send the media in a bit of a frenzy by announcing Rubio’s support for his campaign.
Rubio, who is slated to give the event’s keynote address, may take the opportunity to endorse his friend’s senatorial campaign, as several sources in Washington, D.C., have told the Shark Tank that Rubio and Lopez-Cantera have already made the necessary rounds on Capitol Hill together.

While Lopez-Cantera will would join fellow Floridian and conservative Republican Representative Ron DeSantis as the only two announced senatorial candidates to replace Rubio, expect this growing Republican field of candidates to grow.
Another Florida congressman, Jeff Miller (R), is also expected to enter the Florida’s U.S. Senate race later this summer.
