Anyone who is remotely paying attention to the 2016 Republican presidential primary, will tell you that Jeb Bush had a very bad week in the press after he said that he “misheard” a question posed to him by Fox News’ Megyn Kelly.
The question:“Knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion?”
Jeb’s answer:
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
“I would,” but then went on to say, “So would Hillary Clinton, by the way.”
Jeb later told another Fox News anchor, Sean Hannity, that he “interpreted the question wrong.”
Bush was right about Hillary.
So who was Hillary Clinton’s source?
You guessed it. It was none other than her hubby, President Bill Clinton, who also and supported the Iraq invasion.
“I have repeatedly defended President Bush against the left on Iraq… “That’s why I supported the Iraq thing. There was a lot of stuff unaccounted for…” –President Bill Clinton (CNN, June 23, 2004)
In all the years that I have covered politics, and Jeb Bush, I have never ever heard him second-guess a remark he has made, or position he has taken.
While I agree that Bush had a bad week in the press, he should be able to rebound from it. This kind of snafu is just part of the political vetting process, and won’t amount to much once the 2016 presidential primary race really kicks into gear.
Regardless of what conservative Republicans think about Jeb Bush, he is a very formidable presidential contender, who has mucho dinero in his Super PAC, The Right to Rise.
Money aside, Bush has some real political challenges he needs to try to get in front of.
The major issue that Jeb must contend with is his unabashed support for a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal aliens. Couple this big issue with the fact that Bush supports federal Common Core education standards and testing, and he has a real mess on his hands. But in talking to many Republicans, who oppose Bush on his support for amnesty for illegal aliens and Common Core, and have stated that they would not support a Bush presidential nomination, they all tend to agree that Hillary Clinton must be stopped at all costs, even it means that they would have to plug their noses and vote for Bush.
Whether you love him or hate him because his last name is Bush, but the fact remains that Jeb Bush could very well be the 2016 Republican presidential nominee.
While this is true, I still think that Republicans are looking for an alternative to Jeb, and may very well coalesce behind someone like Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, or Scott Walker.
Another candidate I think could move the needle in his favor is former Texas Governor Rick Perry.
